In my opinion, online music is one of the coolest and most important resources on the Internet today. I am not talking about listening to music online. Online music downloading sites are alright if that is what you are into. You can listen to live streaming music, get copies of the newest albums by your favorite artists, and even find older and more obscure things. This is good because it increases consumer access to hard-to-find music, but it isn’t the best thing about Internet music. The best thing about Internet music is the community.

More and more these days, the online music community is important for a variety of different purposes. Whether you are a musician, a fan, or someone just beginning to learn an instrument, music online resources are absolutely crucial. You can find online guitar music to help you learn your favorite songs, find band mates online through Craigslist and other meeting sites, and even correspond with other music fans to find people to attend concerts with. Online musical forums are great place to meet and discuss, allowing anyone who wants to to leave comments, questions, or other feedback on a wide variety of subjects. There are music forums for basically any genre of music, as well as communities targeted towards a particular geographic location. Basically, if you can dream it, it is probably already there, and if it isn’t already you can make it happen pretty easily.

Of course, online music listening is pretty great too. Personally, I don’t like to download music online, although many people do. I prefer to actually have a physical CD in my hands, you see. Nonetheless, I do love to listen to Internet radio. There are many different Internet radio stations, and you can find basically any genre of music you like. Because of the way the Internet works, you are not limited to six or seven stations playing in your area. There are thousands of stations playing all the time, as well as archived Internet shows that you can listen to.

My favorite thing of all about online music is the opportunity it gives you to promote your band. Anyone who wants to can have a MySpace page, and once you own one, you can put all of your music on your website. It is an easy way to get people to come to your shows, get feedback on your performances, and make connections that can help you to get gigs.
