When you travel for a living, your car can become both your office and your home away from home. Making the hours you spend in it go by a little more quickly is a challenge. That’s why it’s been such a blast discovering Sirius satellite radio. This innovative network has certainly made my time in the car a lot more entertaining. With over 130 channels, Sirius satellite radio has a little bit of everything: classic rock ‘n’ roll, the latest music from around the world, great country and bluegrass, sports, news, comedy, and political talk shows. In fact, when it comes to talk, these guys run the gamut from Howard Stern to Martha Stewart! And one of the biggest perks for listeners is that all programming is commercial-free.
My driving territory covers most of the Midwest, from Ohio down to Tennessee, and as far west as Nebraska. Obviously, you just can’t keep one station playing through all those states! And there’s nothing more frustrating than listening to a great show and having it fade out as you drive out of range. That’s the beauty of Sirius satellite radio. They cover the entire U.S. and Canada with a signal that never gives out, no matter where you drive. You’ve always got access to tons of great music and talk, and all with, to quote Steely Dan, “no static at all.”
Getting started with Sirius satellite radio is incredibly simple. All I had to do was purchase my receiver and sign up for the service via the Internet. The fees are reasonable, starting at around $13 a month for a basic package. There are plenty of websites that carry Sirius satellite radio accessories, such as different receivers, antennas, and speakers.
Some new car companies equip their vehicles with all the necessary hardware for Sirius satellite radio, but because my Toyota is older, I had to purchase a receiver. The great thing is that I can use the receiver in my car, and then bring it in inside and plug it into a specially designed “boom-box,” and I’ve got the same great quality music and talk shows at home. Sirius satellite radio even has a portable receiver, so I can listen while I’m running or doing errands.
Now that I’ve become accustomed to all the different programming options available with Sirius satellite radio, I can’t imagine getting into my car without it. Fortunately, the service is so affordable that I’ll never have to go back to regular broadcasts again!
